My niece, who in all honesty is my age and probably my closest relation, has had an affinity with the Goddess Lakshmi for the last few years.
It started when she put a poster of Lakshmi on her wall directly above her head in her bedroom. So that as she dozed off into dreamland the last thing she would see was the Goddess Lakshmi gazing down upon her.
Story seems bland, lets kick it up a notch.
During her dreams she began to see Lakshmi in strange places. She'd be... walking down the street and notice that the identical poster was pasted all over a wall nearby. Seeing this she would realize she was 'dreaming' and become Lucid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucid_dream) and subsequently gain the abilities attributed to a god, that of control over ones own world. That or she would wake up.
Anyhow, my family has a strangely repeated affinity or interaction with gods in similar manners. That of visits during dreams or whatnot.
Movie really showed all the little quirks that make India a crazy place that you love:
“Taxi driver” actually has an auto.
A fairly grown boy sitting on a total stranger’s (Todd's) lap after giving up his seat.
Office gets flooded – no problem, just keep bailing out the water.
Man in livery strewing rose petals on a heart shaped bed.
Auntie –ji trying to disown Todd who has a bindi on his cheek – “he’s a guest”.
Puro (who btw was just great) asking Todd “You don’t live with your parents?”
Masala coke.
Holi scene was the best.
Old jokes – eraser, cow in an office, getting sick from drinking soda – we do have travel clinics now that warn you about such things. Also, Todd and Asha's romance could have used a little more emotional depth, but overall charming movie, Mr. Jeffcoat
Saw the movie, got the DVD, met the actress. Don't have the T'shirt yet. Ayesha Dharker - a beauty with brains.
Saw her at an Outsourced screening. Not only is she a great actress, but she is intelligent, witty and articulate. At her presentation she sounded more like a marketing whiz from a high-tech company.

So I hope my story hasn't been terribly boring.
